SUMMARY:Cassidy-Reid History Lecture: Benjamin Hoy presents 'Kidnapping for Justice: Extralegal Renditions along the Canada-US Border'
DESCRIPTION:Since the 1830s\, Canadian and American police officers have regularly used transnational abductions and prisoner exchanges to bring wanted men to justice. These practices\, while violating at least one country’s laws\, served as integral parts of border control. In the process\, breaking law became a viable means of upholding it. \nBenjamin Hoy presents this year’s Cassidy-Reid lecture: ‘Kidnapping for Justice: Extralegal Renditions along the Canada-US Border’\, Sept. 28\, from 7:00-8:00 p.m.  A reception follows this public lecture. \nBenjamin Hoy\, a Guelph graduate and Stanford PhD\, is now a tenure-stream faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan. This lectureship was established in honour of retired History professors Keith Cassidy and Richard Reid. \nUniversity Centre\, University Club (Level 5)
