DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore the more advanced question types and features of Qualtrics including: \n\nVarious question types and methods like logic\, piped text\, loop & merge\, timed questions\, scoring\, embedded data\, and randomization\nHow to use Survey Flow to meet complicated research designs\nHow to create and edit messaging in your survey\n\nNOTE: It is expected that attendees have attended Introduction to Qualtrics – Creating Data with Online Surveys or are already competent with the software. \nPlease note: \nYou must use a University of Guelph login to self-register for this workshop. If you don’t have a U of G email address\, please contact library@uoguelph.ca to request registration for this workshop. DESCRIPTION:Aranya Iyer and Mariel Terebiznik\, co-founders of Field Research in Ecology and Evolution Diversified (FREED)\, will present “Fieldwork\, Fun(draising)\, and Friendship: How addressing barriers and decolonizing learning increases skills and community for BIPOC students” as part of the College of Biological Science’s Community Seminar Series. FREED is dedicated to increasing access to field work\, research experiences and skills for students who are underrepresented in the fields of ecology and evolutionary biology. \nThe event will be held Jan. 20 at 11 a.m.\, both on campus in SSC 2315 and online. Visit the event website to access the meeting link. \nThe College of Biological Science Community Seminar Series is designed to promote the work and visibility of biologists from equity-deserving groups\, increase awareness of barriers to inclusion facing biologists\, and provide opportunities to learn about equity\, diversity and inclusion. There will be two seminars per year\, each presented by departmental EDI committees\, with support from the college.

SUMMARY:Virtual Cottage Birds Series
DESCRIPTION:While sitting on the dock\, have you ever asked “Did that loon just attack that duck?” or “How can that Pileated Woodpecker peck such big holes without hurting its brain?” or “Which hawk is that flying overhead?” The answers to these and many other bird-related questions will be covered in this series of eight one-hour sessions on the birds you notice while visiting a cottage\, hiking in a northern park or tenting at your favourite campsite. We will cover identification clues\, behavior\, nesting info\, habitat\, foraging techniques and more. Cottage projects and activities that help birds will also be a part of each session as well as a 10-15 minute discussion period for bird-related questions. All eight programs cost of $70 (plus tax) – that’s less than $10 per program! \nMondays and Wednesdays\, January 20\, 22\, 27\, 29\, February 3\, 5\, 10\, and 12\, 2025\, noon to 1 p.m. \nFee: $70.00 + H.S.T. This event will take place on Zoom. The list of topics with the presentation date is listed below. If you miss any of the programs\, each one is recorded and the recording will be sent to you the next day. The recordings will be available for one month after the last program.

DESCRIPTION:The Landscape Architecture program in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development presents a guest lecture with Elena Tudela and Victor Rico\, two of the co-founders of ORU – the Oficina de Resiliencia Urbana (Office of Urban Resilience) in Mexico City. This organization brings together more than ten years of experience in the academic\, public\, and private sectors and multilateral organizations. \nORU is a women and minority-led urban and landscape design office\, with the main focus of building resilience to climate change. They utilize the transformative power of urban design and landscape infrastructure to shape new futures of interconnected urban regions\, strengthened ecological structures\, environmentally integrated cities\, and resilient communities. All are welcome to attend the online lecture.

The group is facilitated by a learning specialist and is designed to help you identify small goals and accomplish them during short work periods. \nComments from previous participants: \n\n“The group is a great way to work in community and accomplish tasks in a set amount of time.”\n“DO IT!
